Canadian National Debt Clock

Last month, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) set out to educate the population about the federal debt burden Canadians face, while advocating for lower taxes, less waste, and accountable government.

In order to accomplish this goal, the CTF established a campaign to tour across the country in a vehicle displaying the national debt, and the debt per person to attract attention to the issue. Thanks to GPS to GO and our donated Geotab GPS tracking device and software, Canadians were able to track the Debt Clock’s progress across the country in a live feed. The debt clock successfully navigated 9 provinces over 6 weeks through June and July.

GPS to GO, Now You Know

In the United States, any commercial motor vehicle (CMV) which operates across state lines will soon have to become compliant with the new regulations set out by the FMCSA.
The idea behind the regulations is that companies will have to log their hours of service with electronic logging devices, or ELDs. The ELD replaces traditional paper logs, and synchronizes with the engine of the vehicle to collect, register and report important data automatically.

And time is ticking to make the change.

By December 18, 2017, all paper logs must be replaced by ELDs (those using automatic onboard recording devices, or AOBRD), are allowed as well. By December 16, 2019, all AOBRDs must be replaced by ELDs as well.

While Transport Canada has not yet announced any official rules for Canadian operators yet, it’s a matter of time before similar legislation is implemented north of the 49th parallel.

Harry Harmes, franchise owner of ServiceMaster of the Valley in Kentville, Nova Scotia, began looking into telematics software after one of his trucks was stolen with no way of tracing it. Though the vehicle was eventually recovered, it was damaged and there were no security measures in place to keep this from happening again. bbbI have recently become a member of the board of the Ottawa Better Business Bureau (BBB). Not only did I always strive to comply with BBB’s mission, I am now proud to say that I am a board member tasked with helping other businesses adopt BBB’s mission and vision.

The BBB’s vision is:

I now have a great responsibility to the citizens of Ottawa, and I can help guide other business owners in how to implement honest and transparent business practices for their customers.

Committee from time to time, but at least annually.
  8. Receive a summary of the evaluation of the Bureau Manager performed by the Board Chairman 
annually.
  9. Enact such banking and borrowing by-laws as might reasonably be required to manage the day to 
day operations of the Bureau.
  10. Ensuring the affairs of the Bureau are managed in a business-like and prudent fashion.
